About Sand Hutton Asparagus
From our fields in York to your fork. A harvest of 6 weeks takes 365 days of love and care.
Proud to supply

From our fields to your fork.
It takes a full year of love and care to produce the six weeks of harvest we enjoy every year. From planting new crowns to the final cut at the end of the season, we work in a seasonal cycle that sees us producing the most delicious, fresh asparagus for you to enjoy.
We're proud to supply our produce to many fine establishments around the country, and we're also proud to be a fixture at the heart of the local community, welcoming back so many lovely customers to the farm shop, year after year.
Here's a little bit about what goes into growing some of the finest asparagus in the world!

Grown & maintained all year round
For such a short window of time, a lot of preparation and maintenance goes on in the background! We take care of our asparagus fields all year round, planting new crowns, looking after established ones, controlling pests and weeds and giving the plants all the care and attention needed to produce the best quality asparagus, come harvest time.

Harvest time
As we head into April, our 'Tip Top Team' assembles for 6 weeks of hard work and big laughs. Our team, new and returning, get to work every morning through the season, harvesting the fields and picking the best quality spears by hand.

Washed, weighed & banded
Fresh from the fields, our asparagus is taken back to our pack house to be washed, graded by size and quality, banded and then packed. The team hand sort every spear, ensuring each and every bundle of asparagus is top quality.

Ready for sale
All washed and weighed, our asparagus is packaged up, ready for sale. Loads of boxes make their way into top restaurants, cafes and many other venues across Yorkshire (and further afield) but we also reserve a selection especially for the farm shop.
You can choose from different varieties and grades, including our 'soup bags' - a little wonky, but still fresh and delicious!
